Message from the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University on the 40th Anniversary of the McGill Department of Family Medicine

It is an honour to congratulate everyone in the McGill Department of Family Medicine as the Department celebrates its 40th anniversary.  Over the past 40 years, we have been very fortunate to have benefitted from the dedicated, enthusiastic and talented students, professors, practitioners and staff in the Department of Family Medicine.

The Department has grown from a small teaching program to a department that now boasts six family medicine units across Quebec, caring for diverse communities including vulnerable, immigrant and indigenous populations.  From modest roots, the Department has evolved to become a vital part of the Faculty of Medicine, highlighting the importance of primary care and its role in society.

As part of the Department’s 40th Anniversary, I am pleased to attend in the symposium, entitled Towards a common vision for primary care in Quebec.  I look forward to joining the discussions and would like to thank everyone for joining us today, together with our partner organizations, and speakers who are also generously lending their valuable time to these efforts.  I wish all a very enriching event.
